Antigua: In a crucial Super 8 match of the 2024 T20 World Cup, South Africa defeated West Indies by the DLS method to qualify for the semi-finals.
In the Group 2 match held at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, South Africa won the toss and elected to field first against West Indies.
For the first time in ten years, South Africa has reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. The host team, West Indies, set a target of 136 runs for South Africa.
The match was interrupted by rain, reducing South Africa’s target from 136 to 123 runs to be chased in 17 overs. South Africa achieved the target with 5 balls to spare.
West Indies lost two wickets early in their innings, with Shai Hope out for a duck and Nicholas Pooran scoring only one run.
Kyle Mayers and Roston Chase formed a crucial partnership of 81 runs. Mayers scored 35 runs before getting out, and Chase scored 52 runs.
South Africa’s bowling started excellently, with Tabraiz Shamsi taking 3 wickets for 27 runs in 4 overs. He was named Player of the Match.
It is noteworthy that from Group 2, England has also qualified for the semi-finals by defeating the USA. The second semi-finalist from this group will be decided after today’s match.
