Karachi Swelters as ‘Feels Like’ Temperature Hits 51°C Amid Heatwave

Karachi: Karachi is experiencing a partial heatwave, with temperatures soaring and the “feels like” temperature reaching a scorching 51°C on Monday afternoon, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

According to the Meteorological Department, the current temperature in Karachi is 41 degrees Celsius. Due to 40 percent humidity in the air, the heat is being felt as high as 51 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department also reported that the minimum temperature recorded in Karachi is 30.5 degrees Celsius, while the current temperature is 41 degrees Celsius.

PMD stated that Karachi will continue to experience extremely hot and humid weather conditions, with the sea breeze being blocked during the day, which will intensify the heat. The intense heat is expected to persist for the next three days, with daytime temperatures exceeding 40°C.

The PMD has urged citizens to take precautions against the heat, emphasizing the importance of staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water and juices. The current humidity level in the city stands at 39%.

The forecast indicates that Karachi’s maximum temperature on Tuesday will range between 38°C and 40°C. Hot winds from Balochistan will continue to blow from the northwest during the day, with the sea breeze potentially resuming in the evening. A slight drop in temperatures is expected from Wednesday, with the mercury likely to fall to 37°C-39°C.

Looking ahead, the PMD predicts above-normal rainfall in southern Sindh, including Karachi, this year. Monsoon rains are anticipated to begin in the eastern parts of Sindh around July 2 or 3, with Karachi expected to receive its first monsoon showers in the first week of July.

The heatwave is affecting most parts of Sindh, with temperatures in Ghotki, Jacobabad, Dadu, Larkana, and Shikarpur expected to reach between 46°C and 48°C.
