Karachi: The crackdown against individuals involved in gas theft continues in Karachi as a network involved in stealing millions of rupees worth of gas has been apprehended.
According to the spokesperson of the SSGC, a joint operation was carried out near the Sabzi Mandi area in Gul Hassan Town by the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).
During the operation, it was revealed that gas was being directly diverted from the service lines to provide gas to around 2,000 illegal connections. The raiding team disconnected all the illegal connections, effectively dismantling the entire network.
The gas thieves were stealing 2,400,000 cubic meters of gas annually, with the stolen gas estimated to be worth 75,000,000 rupees.
According to the spokesperson, penalties will be imposed based on gas load calculations. Gas is a national asset, and gas theft will not be tolerated under any circumstances. The crackdown against gas thieves will be intensified further.
