Supreme Court Judges Including CJP Faez Isa Also Receive Threatening Letters

Islamabad: Following alarming reports of threatening letters containing a powdered substance being sent to judges of the Lahore and Islamabad High Courts, the situation has intensified with revelations that five judges of the Supreme Court including Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faez Isa have also received threatening letters.

The judges identified as recipients of these suspicious letters include Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, along with Justices Athar Minallah, Aminuddin Khan, Jamal Mandokhel, and Shahid Waheed. Notably, Justice Waheed received the letter at the Lahore registry.

All four letters were received at the Supreme Court on April 1st, and they contained powder. The letters have been handed over to the Counter-Terrorism Department. Fortunately, no harm befell court staff due to the suspicious powder in the letters, according to insider sources. The CTD team also held discussions with the Supreme Court registrar to further assess the situation.

It should be noted that suspicious letters were received by eight judges of the Islamabad High Court yesterday.

Court sources stated that there were intimidating symbols inside the letters, and a woman named Resham sent the letters to the judges without mentioning her address.

Court sources revealed that when the staff opened the letters, there was powder inside, and after opening the letters, they felt a burning sensation in their eyes.

Court sources said that the affected staff immediately used sanitizer and washed their hands, and the word “anthrax” was written on the content of the letter.

According to the Registrar’s Office, the letters were addressed to Justice Shujaat Ali Khan, Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, Justice Abid Aziz, and Justice Alia Neelum, while the senders of the letters are members of the administrative committee of the Lahore High Court.

On the other hand, after receiving letters at the Islamabad High Court, the next day, threatening letters were also received by four judges of the Lahore High Court, which have been verified by the Registrar’s Office of the Lahore High Court.
