PTI Boycotts Sindh Senate Elections Citing Electoral Fraud Allegations

Karachi: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced its boycott of the upcoming Senate elections scheduled to take place in Sindh on April 2, citing allegations of electoral rigging in the February 8 general elections. The party has further revealed plans to organize a massive rally in Karachi on April 28 as part of its protest movement against perceived electoral malpractice.

In a press conference held in Karachi, PTI Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh declared the party’s decision to abstain from participating in elections conducted within an assembly formed through what they claim were rigged polls.

The provincial president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Haleem Adil, while announcing the boycott of the Senate elections, said that where members with stolen mandates are seated, they will not contest the elections. The entire system, including the Prime Minister and the President, is fraudulent.

Expressing distrust in the legitimacy of the current government, Sheikh accused the ruling party of unjustly manipulating election outcomes, leading to a decline in their credibility. He claimed that despite securing victory in 180 seats during the general elections, many wins were unfairly revoked.

Sheikh alleged instances of abduction targeting PTI candidates during by-elections in Sindh, asserting that such actions aimed to thwart their participation in the electoral process. Specifically, he referenced the rejection of nomination papers for the NA-207 seat in Shaheed Benazirabad and subsequent abduction of the PTI candidate en route to challenge the decision.

Referring to the unopposed election of Aseefa Bhutto Zardari as a Member National Assembly (MNA) for the NA-207 constituency, Sheikh questioned the legitimacy of her victory, insinuating that it was facilitated by an unjust electoral environment.

Highlighting the PTI’s perceived victory on February 8 and subsequent defeat due to alleged rigging, Sheikh emphasized the party’s refusal to engage with what they deem a corrupt electoral system. As a result, PTI candidates will refrain from participating in the Senate polls in Sindh.

Moreover, Sheikh announced the initiation of a protest movement aimed at challenging the perceived electoral injustices, particularly targeting the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). The culmination of this movement is set to occur on April 28 with a public rally in Karachi, where PTI intends to voice its dissent against what it considers an illegitimate government.
