New York: Incidents of anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian discrimination and hate crimes are on the rise in the United States and have reached a record high with a significant spike of approximately 180% in the three months following October 7.
According to details, following the Israel-Hamas conflict, there has been a significant increase of 178% in discriminatory treatment and hate incidents against Muslims, particularly Palestinians, in the United States compared to the previous year.
According to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), in the last three months, incidents of Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian bias have increased in the United States and other locations. CAIR reports that during the last quarter of 2023, 3,578 complaints related to hate incidents against Muslims and Palestinians were received. This number represents a remarkable 178% increase compared to complaints received during the same period one year ago.
The organization further reveals that out of the total complaints, 662 were related to discriminatory treatment in employment, 472 were reports of hate crimes and hate incidents, and 448 were complaints related to educational discrimination.
The escalation of anti-Muslim incidents parallels a broader trend of rising hatred and discrimination since the conflict erupted in the Middle East. Notable incidents in the U.S. include a November shooting in Vermont, where three students of Palestinian descent were shot, and the fatal stabbing of a 6-year-old Palestinian American child in Illinois in October.
The authorities emphasize that the impact of discriminatory practices in employment, hate crimes, and educational discrimination is increasingly affecting individuals in the Muslim community, as reflected in the rising number of complaints received.
