9 Pakistani Laborers Shot Dead in Iran, 3 Others Wounded

Islamabad: In a disturbing incident, unidentified gunmen targeted a residence in Saravan, Sistan-Baluchestan province of Iran, leaving nine Pakistani nationals dead and three others wounded.

According to official sources, unidentified individuals entered a house near the city of Saravan in the Sistan province of Iran and shot dead 9 Pakistanis, leaving three others wounded.. The victims have been identified as laborers working at a car repair shop, five of them were from the same family.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Tehran, Muhammad Mudassir Tipu, expressing concern over the incident took to social media to express deep shock, stating, “Deeply shocked by horrifying killing of 9 Pakistanis in Saravan. Embassy will extend full support to bereaved families.” He further called upon Iran to extend full cooperation in addressing this tragic incident.

He stated that the Pakistani embassy in Iran will provide assistance and support to the relatives of the victims.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, also condemned the attack terming it “horrific and despicable terrorist incident”, and urged Iran to investigate the incident and hold the perpetrators accountable for their crime.

Initial information suggests that 5 of the deceased individuals belonged to various areas of Alipur while two others belong to the Lodhran area of Pakistan. These individuals had been working as laborers in Iran for the past 10 years.

The relatives of the victims state that the terrorists entered the house and shot each one of them. They have requested the government’s assistance in transferring the bodies to their ancestral areas.

It is worth noting that this unfortunate incident comes amid recent tensions between Iran and Pakistan, marked by tit-for-tat missile attacks in each others territories which created major rift in diplomatic relations between the two neighboring countries. However, following the exchange of attacks the two countries were working on the restoration of diplomatic relations and the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Abdollahian was scheduled to visit Pakistan on Monday, 29 January.
