Israel Attacks UN Shelter in Khan Yunis Killing at least 9 Refugees & Injuring 75

Khan Yunis: Israeli Occupying Forces (IOF) targeted a United Nations shelter in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, resulting in several casualties, the bombings on the relief agency’s center, 9 Palestinians were martyred, and several others were injured.

According to sources, the shelling by Israeli Occupying Forces struck the building of the UN training center housing 800 people, with the current toll reported as nine dead and 75 injured. The UN training center was struck by two shells, leading to a devastating fire.

Philippe Lazzarini, the head of UNRWA, denounced the incident as “a blatant disregard of basic rules of war” and emphasized that the compound was a clearly marked UN facility. Thomas White, Director of UNRWA Affairs in Gaza condemned the attacks stating that “Persistent attacks on civilian sites in Khan Younis are utterly unacceptable and must stop immediately.”

Israel’s persistent onslaught on civilian sites in Khan Younis has reached alarming proportions, prompting urgent calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities from the United Nations (UN). Civilians are facing the brunt of the conflict, with casualties rising, hospitals encircled, and shelters hosting displaced individuals under intense fire.

The besieged southern city of Khan Younis has witnessed dozens of reported fatalities as Israeli forces target vital facilities such as hospitals, ambulances, and schools, where thousands of civilians seek refuge.

As the conflict intensifies, Israel continues its attacks on Khan Younis, targeting medical facilities. The Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis has been isolated, and ground troops engage in close-quarter combat with resistance fighters.

The Health Ministry of Gaza states that more than 100 wounded, patients, and newborns are facing severe difficulties due to the attack on the Nasser Medical Complex.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported Israeli forces surrounding its headquarters and El Amal Hospital in the southern city. The gravity of the situation is further underscored by the closure of Al Khair Hospital, forced to shut down by Israeli forces, following which patients, including post-C-section women, were evacuated in the dead of night.

In response, Palestinian resistance fighters carried out retaliatory attacks, resulting in the death and injury of several Israeli soldiers. An Israeli drone was downed during the resistance attacks, and several tanks and bulldozers were destroyed.

On the other hand, in northern Gaza, the worst humanitarian situation has put the lives of 500,000 Palestinians at risk due to hunger.

It is worth noting that within the past 24 hours, Israeli occupying forces reportedly killed an additional 250 Palestinians, and in the Jabalia camp, a residential building was also destroyed. Israel has forcibly displaced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from Khan Yunis. The overall death toll from Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7 has reached at least 25,700 people, including 10,800 children and 7,250 women, with an additional 63,740 individuals sustaining injuries.
