Cipher’s Intended Recipient was Gen. Bajwa, Shah Mahmood Qureshi Found it by “Chance”, says Imran Khan

Islamabad: Imran Khan, former chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has disclosed that Shah Mahmood Qureshi accidentally stumbled upon the American diplomatic cipher document, alleging its intended recipient was former army chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa.

According to media reports, Imran Khan, addressing the media at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, said that extensive efforts were made to suppress the cipher issue to shield the  US diplomat, as it would have exposed Donald Lu.

Imran Khan stated that demarche was done on the recommendation of Pakistan’s ambassador. He said Pakistan’s Ambassador Asad Majeed recommended in an official meeting to convey demarche to Donald Lu, But now, said Imran Khan, it is being said that there was no conspiracy; such a cipher has never come in Pakistan’s history, emphasizing that if there was nothing in the cipher, such a diplomatic move wouldn’t have been necessary

“Why was a demarche issued to the United States if there was nothing in the cipher? Does anyone ever demarche the US?” he asked.

He further accused Bajwa of hiring Husain Haqqani, paying him $35,000m, and making him tweet that Imran Khan is anti-America while Bajwa is pro-America.

Imran Khan, speaking from Adiala Jail, framed the ongoing developments as part of a “freedom movement” and urged PTI candidates to initiate a peaceful election campaign starting from Sunda. He warned that if any candidate refrains from participating, their tickets will be reconsidered.

On the other hand, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that it was explicitly written in cipher indicating that it was exclusively for the Foreign Secretary.
