Russian Aircraft That Crashed in Afghanistan, Remained in Pakistani Airspace for 45 Minutes

Islamabad: An aircraft bound for Tashkent from India, which ultimately crashed in Afghanistan, remained in Pakistani airspace for 45 minutes.

According to sources at the Civil Aviation Authority, the aircraft, registered as CN-TKN and a 50-year-old F-A10 (Dassault Falcon 10), took off from Thailand’s Rayong Pattaya International Airport for a private charter flight, departing on Sunday night at 1:20 AM local time.

While en route from Myanmar, it entered India near Kolkata at 2:30 AM local time. Passing over Lucknow and Chandi Ghar, the aircraft entered Pakistani airspace near Lahore at 5:50 AM, traveling at an altitude of 37,925 feet with a speed of 570 kilometers per hour.

Unfortunately, the ill-fated aircraft entered Afghanistan’s airspace near Peshawar at 6:35 AM, barely 35 minutes later. At that time, the aircraft was flying at a standard altitude of 36,150 feet and a speed of 570 kilometers per hour. It is estimated that the aircraft continued its journey in Afghanistan for an additional 30 minutes, finally crashing in the mountainous Badakhshan province in northeastern Afghanistan at 6:30 AM local time.

This twin-engine aircraft, a Dassault Falcon 10 manufactured in France in 1978, was owned by a company named Athletic Group and was in the possession of an individual from a city. According to CAA sources, the Russian ambulance aircraft used Pakistani airspace as part of its route. However, the pilot did not communicate any emergency to Pakistani authorities.

On the other hand, according to the Afghan Ministry of Transport, four passengers, including the pilot, survived the crash, while the search for two missing passengers is underway.

It should be noted that, as per Russian aviation authorities, there were six people on board the aircraft, including a Russian patient. The aircraft entered Pakistan from Lahore after entering Pakistani airspace from Peshawar and heading to Afghanistan.
