Pakistan Recalls Ambassador from Iran Following “Violation of Pakistan’s Sovereignty”

Islamabad: In a move reflecting heightened tensions between Pakistan and Iran, Pakistan has recalled its ambassador from Tehran after on Tuesday Iran launched missile attacks into Pakistani territory of Panjgur district which resulted in the death of two young girls, injuring three others, and damaging a mosque and three houses.

According to details, Pakistan’s foreign ministry announced on Wednesday the decision to recall its ambassador from Iran in response to what it termed an unauthorized breach of its airspace and sovereignty by Iran. The move comes amidst escalating tensions between the two Muslim-majority nations.

The Pakistani foreign ministry stated that the violation, described as an “unprovoked and blatant breach” of sovereignty, and strongly protested the “violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty,” calling it “completely unacceptable” and warning of serious consequences.

“Pakistan reserves the right to respond to this illegal act and the responsibility for the consequences will lie squarely with Iran,”, said Mumtaz Zahra, the Foreign Office Spokesperson of Pakistan.

While Iran claims to have targeted bases of the militant group Jaish al Adl, Pakistan claims resulted in the death of two young girls, injured three others, and damaged a mosque and three houses. The incident follows Tehran’s similar attacks in Iraq and Syria, exacerbating regional complexities.

The attacks on Pakistani soil occurred a day after Tehran conducted similar strikes in Iraq and Syria. Iran’s state-backed media claimed responsibility for hitting an alleged Israeli espionage center in Erbil in north Iraq, prompting Iraq to recall its ambassador from Tehran. Pakistan’s response also includes withholding the return of Iran’s ambassador, currently in his home country.

On the other hand, China has called on Pakistan and Iran to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could escalate tensions following an incident in which Iran launched attacks in Pakistan targeting alleged bases of the militant group Jaish al-Adl. China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability between the close neighbors.
