Islamabad: Pakistan has become the first South Asian country to export export heat-treated beef to its neighboring country China, sending its first shipment of frozen beef to China, the world’s largest meat importer.
According to media reports, The Organic Meat Company Limited (TOMCL), based in Pakistan, announced the successful export of cooked and heat-treated frozen beef and meat products to China on December 31, 2023.
The Organic Meat Company Limited is the second registered company in the region who have the license to export meat to China.
China accounts for about 23% of the world’s total beef consumption and holds immense potential as a market for Pakistani beef export which can help reduce the trade deficit of Pakistan, as China in 2022 alone imported 3 million metric tons of meat.
The completion of China’s Belt and Road Initiative is expected to further facilitate the export of beef and other commodities, opening new corridors for trade.
