Islamabad: The Senate of Pakistan has approved a resolution demanding stringent penalties for people involved in disseminating negative and malicious propaganda against the Pakistan Army and other security forces.
The resolution, presented by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Bahramand Tangi, gained unanimous approval during the session chaired by Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani.
The resolution underscores the importance of a robust military, especially in the face of external threats, highlighting the sacrifices made by the armed forces for the protection of the country’s borders, the defense of Pakistan, and the ongoing battle against terrorism and external threats. It specifically addresses concerns over the proliferation of anti-military narratives on various social media platforms and calls on the government to take decisive action in accordance with the law.
Initially proposing a 10-year disqualification, Senator Tangi later amended the resolution during the session, seeking action in line with existing legal provisions. The resolution urges the government to impose severe punishment for those found guilty of engaging in negative and malicious propaganda against the armed forces and other security agencies.
In addition to this resolution, the Senate also addressed the pressing issue of drug usage among students. The resolution, presented by Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri, called for immediate steps to meet the needs of all students and recommended a comprehensive reform of the higher education curriculum to educate students about the consequences and risks associated with drug use.
