Washington: The United States has issued a warning for Iran to stop aiding the Houthi rebels, stating that Houthi attacks pose a dangerous threat and violate principle of freedom of navigation.
According to international news agencies, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin during his visit to Israel made a statement regarding the Houthi attacks on shipping lanes in the Red Sea.
“In the Red Sea, we’re leading a multinational maritime task force to uphold the bedrock principle of freedom of navigation,” Austin said. He stated that the international community is forming a security coalition to address the issue of Houthi attacks. Austin emphasized that it is an international matter that warrants an international response.
So far the coalition includes 10 countries: United States, United Kingdom, Bahrain, Canada, France, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Seychelles and Spain.
The security coalition, Austin said, will work “with the goal of ensuring freedom of navigation for all countries and bolstering regional security and prosperity.”
He mentioned that a virtual meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday to address the issue, with the participation of ministers from Middle Eastern countries.
It is noteworthy that the Yemeni Houthis have been targeting ships in the Red Sea going to or coming from Israel as a sign of solidarity with the Palestinians who have been the victims of relentless Israeli attacks.
Furthermore during his visit to Israel, Lloyd Austin stated that the United States is Israel’s greatest friend and will continue to provide it with essential weapons, ammunition, tactical vehicles, and air defense systems. Lloyd Austin futher said that the United States will continue providing arms and ammunitions to Israel.
“American support for Israel security is unshakable. Israel is not alone.”, Lloyd Austin said.
The U.S. Secretary of Defense further emphasized that the purpose of their support is not to impose any time-bound or other conditions on Israel for its engagement in the conflict.
It is worth noting that despite continuous Israeli attacks against civilians in Gaza that has led to the martydom of approximately 20,000 Palestinians, injured 50,000 people, violation of internationals laws and human rights, and destroyed the 60% infrastructure of Gaza, displacing 90% of its total population, the U.S. has continued its support for Israel, providing it with weaponry. The Human Rights Watch has revealed that Israel has been deliberately blocking the delivery of water, food and fuel, to people in Gaza and using starvation of civilians as a method of warfare against civilians of Gaza.
