Chairman OGRA Signals Further Increase in Gas Prices

Lahore: Chairman of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), Masroor Khan, has indicated the possibility of gas becoming more expensive in the country.

Chairman OGRA, Masroor Khan, conducted a hearing on the issue of increasing gas tariffs, where all stakeholders presented their respective positions. Sui Northern Gas requested an additional 131% increase in gas rates, following the earlier increase in gas tariffs from November 1.

Chairman OGRA stated that the positions of all stakeholders have been heard, and the next hearing will take place in Peshawar. After that, recommendations will be sent to the government. The final announcement regarding the increase in gas prices is made by the government, but the priority for us is the benefit of consumers.

He mentioned that gas is expensive worldwide, and there is a possibility of it becoming more expensive here as well. Consumers will now have to move towards gas conservation. He shared that he, too, has controlled gas consumption at his home.

Chairman OGRA highlighted the challenge of importing expensive RLNG (Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas) from abroad due to depleting reserves. The burden of the costly imported RLNG is borne by the consumer.
