Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger Dies at 100

New York: Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger has passed away at the age of 100.

Henry Kissinger’s demise occurred at his residence in Kent, Connecticut. His final rites will be performed by the family, and later a memorial ceremony will be held in New York.

Henry Kissinger remained extremely active until his last moments at the age of 100, participating in White House meetings. He had recently visited Beijing in July, where he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping. His involvement in the establishment of US-China relations after his secret visit to China during the Cold War against the Soviet Union is one of Henry Kissinger’s most memorable legacies.

Henry Kissinger went to China secretly as part of the Cold War dynamics against the Soviet Union, and the result was the historic visit of US President Richard Nixon to China in 1972. Later, the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States became one of Henry Kissinger’s most enduring achievements.

Considered a central figure in American foreign policy, Henry Kissinger remained a controversial figure, often described as a war criminal.

Kissinger’s actions from 1969 to 1976, during his influential role in Nixon’s and Ford’s foreign policy, resulted in the deaths of three to four million people. This includes direct involvement in Cambodia and Chile, as well as indirect support for bloodshed in East Timor, Bangladesh, being the advisor of the Bush administration on the Iraq war,  and abandoning the Kurds. Despite his controversial legacy, Kissinger is often hailed as a great geopolitical thinker and strategist.

He authored several books and served as Secretary of State and National Security Advisor. He was also awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for negotiations to end the Vietnam War.
