Quetta: In comparison to other provinces, pneumonia cases are rapidly increasing in Balochistan, affecting children and individuals of advanced age the most. It is imperative to implement precautionary measures to prevent the spread of pneumonia.
Speaking at a seminar held at the Bolan Medical Complex Hospital in connection with pneumonia, Professor Dr. Maqbool Langove, the President of the Pakistan Chest Society Balochistan, stated that pneumonia is a respiratory infection that can range from mild to severe, affecting the air sacs in the lungs.
He explained that this infection occurs when the air sacs are filled with fluid or pus, making it difficult to breathe. Pneumonia can affect anyone, and breathing may become challenging. However, children under 2 years of age and individuals over 65 years of age are at a higher risk.
Dr. Langove further emphasized that the immune system may not be strong enough to fight against pneumonia. It can affect one or both lungs, and individuals may contract it unknowingly. Pneumonia is caused by bacteria, viruses, and fungi. If it is bacterial or viral pneumonia, it can be transmitted to others.
