Karachi: Former captain of the national team, Shahid Afridi, has stated that he did not lobby for Shaheen Afridi; instead, he advised keeping Babar Azam as captain.
Speaking on private television, Shahid Afridi mentioned, “I swear, I have never lobbied or supported Shahin Afridi for captaincy. I advised keeping Babar Azam as captain.”
Shahid Afridi further clarified that he is surprised and saddened by those accusing him of lobbying. He expressed his dismay, saying, “Neither do I get involved in such matters, nor is there any need for me to do so. If such actions were required, I would have never spoken against the chairman.”
Afridi also stated that he has consistently supported Mohammad Rizwan for the captaincy of the white-ball cricket team because he knows how to lead everyone together. He emphasized, “I wanted to keep Shaheen Afridi away from the captaincy.”
