American Muslims and Democratic Party workers have said that they will mobilize hundreds of thousands of Muslim voters to hold back their votes for President Joe Biden’s 2024 reelection until President Joe Biden takes immediate action to secure a ceasefire in Gaza.
The National Muslim Democratic Council, which includes Democratic Party leaders demanded that Biden use his influence with Israel to enforce a ceasefire with Israel by 5 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday.
In an open letter titled “2023 Ceasefire Ultimatum,” Muslim leaders pledged to mobilize Muslim voters to withhold their votes, endorsement, and support for any candidate who validates Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.
The council stated that the Biden administration’s unconditional support for Israel, including funding and arms, has played a significant role in perpetuating violence against Palestinians, resulting in civilian casualties and undermining voter trust that previously trusted him.
Former American representative Keith Ellison, Minnesota Attorney General and the first Muslim elected to Congress, and Andre Carson of Indiana are co-chairs of the organization.
This letter is the latest sign of growing anger and frustration in Arab and Muslim American communities following President Biden’s failure to condemn Israel’s attacks on Gaza
