Surjani Town: Jamaat-e-Islami’s Councilor Shot Dead by Kunda Mafia

Karachi: A councilor of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed while 2 others were injured due to firing by men associated with the Kunda (electricity theft) Mafia near Aashiqan-e-Rasool Mosque in Sector 4-C of Surjani Town.

The body of the deceased was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital by the Chippa rescue workers. In this regard, SHO Surjani Town, Amin Solangi said that the deceased has been identified as 60-year-old Habib, while the injured 42-year-old Adnan Izhar is being provided medical assistance. He said that according to initial investigations, the incident occurred over a dispute regarding electricity theft.

Local residents from the Surjani area, present at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, disclosed that the gunfire incident was orchestrated by individuals linked to the notorious Kunda Mafia. These witnesses recounted how they had sought assistance from local Jamaat-e-Islami representatives to facilitate the installation of electricity meters in their residences. The confrontation with the Kunda Mafia transpired while they were engaged in discussions with the Jamaat-e-Islami officials.

According to the local residents, the individuals associated with the Kunda Mafia asserted their intention to extort Kunda money. In response, the residents firmly communicated that they were resolute in seeking legal electricity connections and would not yield to unlawful demands. In a tragic turn of events, the Kunda Mafia members, who had arrived on motorcycles, resorted to violence and opened gunfire. Tragically, Councilor Habib succumbed to a fatal gunshot wound to the chest, while numerous others sustained injuries after being beaten with batons. Following the incident, an atmosphere of tension permeated the locality, and the residents were enraged by the unfolding events.
