Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh’s Vice-President, Allama Delwar Hossain Sayeedi Passes Away While in Custody

Dhaka: Allama Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, the Deputy Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami in Bangladesh, has passed away while in custody.

Allama Delwar Hossain Sayeedi suffered a heart attack in jail and was transferred to the PGI Hospital in Dhaka, where he breathed his last. The news of his unexpected death led to thousands of people taking to the streets and engaging in intense protests.

It should be noted that Allama Delwar Hossain was arrested in June 2010. He had been sentenced to death by the controversial tribunal dealing with war crimes in Bangladesh in 2013. He was a renowned international scholar, author of several books, and a well-known religious figure. His gatherings used to witness substantial participation.
