KARACHI: The services rendered by Dr. Ruth Pfau to the nation of Pakistan will be memorable forever.
Her role was recognized by the state with various national awards and commemorative coin and now with the innovative digital grave of her in the Christian Cemetery, commonly known as Gora Qabristan in Karachi.
Not very decorative but a simple graveyard of Dr. Ruth Pfau was designed including her portrait, a brief details of her nationality, date of birth and death, her motto of life, and most importantly a QR Code for giving a detail biographical information to her visitor.
This is the first time in Pakistan that a QR Code is given on the grave of a known personality. Visitors could scan the code and get the information about her personal and professional life.
Dr. Ruth Katharina Martha Pfau was a German national who dedicated her life for the amelioration of lepers’ lot in Pakistan. She was an emblem of devotion, commitment, and service to Pakistan. Her untiring efforts brought leprosy under control and Pakistan became the first country in Asia to earn this status. Dr. Pfau’s contribution to the society was gratefully acknowledged by the people and state during her lifetime. She was awarded Hilal-i- Imtiaz, Nishan-i-Quaid –i-Azam and Hilal-i-Pakistan. In April 2018, State Bank of Pakistan unveiled a 50 Rupees commemorative coin in her honour.
The trend of using technology on her grave is likely to be imitated and followed in the future.
The use of technology is being increased in Pakistan in various aspect of social life. Previously, DHA Phase VIII developed a technological system that can provide an online view of their loved one’s grave.
