Mohsin Khan rejects ‘Chief Selector offer’

LAHORE: Former Pakistan cricketer, chief selector and head coach Mohsin Hasan Khan has reportedly rejected an offer from Pakistan Cricket Board to become Chief Selector for the second time.

Mohsin Khan was offered Chief Selector’s post but he rejected and insisted to become Pakistan’ head coach.

while talking to a local TV channel, Mohsin said, “I’ve been Pakistan’s head coach, team performed brilliantly under my coaching, we whit-washed number Test team England in UAE, I don’t know why they don’t consider me again.”

But, recent advertisement for the post of Pakistan head coach from PCB has made things difficult for Mohsin.

PCB has put tough conditions for the criteria, demanding at least five years experience of national/international level coaching, making it almost impossible for most of the local coaching candidates including Mohsin Hassan Khan.

He has 15 year long First class career and around eight years of Test/ODI experience for Pakistan. He represented Pakistan in 48 Test and 78 ODIs in his career, but, unfortunately he does not have much of experience as a coach both at domestic and international level.

The second clause of criteria demands Test and ODI experience as a player, while 10 years experience of First Class Cricket would also be preferred.

Earlier, PCB had made a two-member committee comprising of former Test players Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja to assist board in finding a head coach for national team.

Sources close to PCB suggest that both Akram and Raja are in favor of having a foreign coach, but board members have put their weight behind Aqib Javed and he is still the strongest contender for the job.

It is pertinent to mention here that former Pakistan fast bowler and current UAE coach Aqib Javed has confirmed the approach from PCB to replace Waqar Younis as head coach.

According to Sports 360, Aqib Javed was approached by PCB heads and was asked if he was interested in Pakistan coaching, to which he responded  positively.
