ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Friday chaired a top-level meeting on internal security which was attended by high-level civil and military officials.

The meeting comes in the wake of Pakistan’s decision to join a 34-nation Saudi military alliance and curtailing of special powers of Rangers in Karachi by the ruling PPP.

Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Director General ISI Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, National Security Advisor Lt Gen (retd) Nasir Janjua, PM’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi attended the meeting.

The meeting also discussed the situation in Afghanistan.

According to sources, the top military and civil leadership discussed issues relating to Pakistan’s participation in a 34-nation military coalition announced by Saudi Arabia earlier this week.

Pakistan yesterday confirmed joining the Saudi-led alliance to combat terrorism. The 34-nation alliances doesn’t include Iraq, Syria and Iran, which were directly involved in fight against Deash terror group.

On the other hand, Sindh Assembly’s resolution curtailing powers of Rangers also came under discussion.
