DUBAI: Local police in Dubai (UAE) has arrested Pakistani anchor Dr Moeed Pirzada on the charges of forgery, TheNewsTribe.com reported.
Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson has confirmed the arrest.
Pakistan Interior Ministry sources confirmed the news and added that a close female relative also arrested with Moeed Pirzada.
He is in Dubai Police’s custody since August, 4, 2015, said the Ministry sources.
Pakistani political commentator and a TV journalist, Moeed Hasan Pirzada currently working with Pakistan’s local news channel, Dunya News.
“Moeed Pirzada was arrested in Abu Dhabi on August 4,” said a FO spokesperson.
“Our embassy in the UAE is in contact with authorities over there and will provide all possible assistance to Pirzada,” the spokesperson added.
However, the spokesperson said the reason for his arrest could not yet be ascertained. Although social networking site, Twitter, was abuzz with claims that Pirzada was arrested for “forging property documents.”
Despite the confirmation of arrest, Moeed Pirzada is active on micro-blogging website Twitter, where he appealed few hours ago for the prayers.
