Another major power breakdown hits Karachi

KARACHI: The citizens of Karachi have no respite from the menace of load-shedding as another major power breakdown hit the city again in early Monday hours inflicting darkness on 60 percent of areas of the metropolis.

Exposing the tall claims by the K-Electric, the power supply system collapsed fourt time in last six days after a technical hang-up in Bin Qasim Thermal Power Plant triggered the failure of 15 grid stations.

Power crisis is likely to further intensify as electricity supply disconnected to Industrial Zone including Port Qasim and Pakistan Steel Mills throwing these areas into the dark. The blackout affected mostly the densely-populated areas, from Gharo to Karachi Industrial Area, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Bhains Colony, Port Qasim, Quaidabad, Malir and Karachi airport..

K-Electric sources said that the power supply tripped due to significant rise in electricity demand owing to the rise in mercury in the metropolis.
