APHC condemns bars over Geelani’s free movement in IOK

SRINAGAR: All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Geelani forum has strongly denounced the puppet authorities for curbing the free movement of the veteran leader Syed Ali Geelani to prevent him from carrying out his political as well as religious activities.

The forum spokesman, Ayaz Akbar, in a statement issued in Srinagar on Saturday said that the action had exposed the claim of Director General of Police, Kashmir, Rajendra Kumar that Syed Ali Geelani was a free man.

He described the move as sheer hooliganism and interference in religious affairs of people. Syed Ali Geelani was arrested along with several Hurriyat leaders and activists by Indian police on Friday when he tried to come out of his residence and move towards Islamabad town to address a public gathering there.

The spokesman said that the DGP had recently issued many statements that the veteran leader was a free man and could offer prayers anywhere in the territory.

He said that to test the reality of this statement, Syed Ali Geelani, despite being under continued house detention, announced to offer his Friday prayers at Islamabad and address an important public meeting there after the prayers.

“We thought for sake of police chief’s statement, the authorities will release him for the day and lift the police cordon around his residence. But extraordinary deployment of police force was put in place around it,” he added. He said that Hurriyat leaders including Yasmeen Raja, Zamrooda Habib, Peer Saifullah, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Shafi Reshi, Abdul Hameed Magray, Muhammad Shafi Lone, Nisar Hussain Rather, Bilal Ahmad Siddiqi, Muhammad Sayeed and Ghulam Mustafa took part in a protest demonstration at Hyderpora against the arrest of Syed Ali Geelani.

Ayaz Akbar said that before coming to power, the puppet Chief Minister, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and his daughter Mehbooba Mufti used to criticize Omer Abdullah for placing the veteran leader under continued house arrest and also for stopping him from offering Friday prayers. “But soon after coming to power, Mufti’s political slogans and ideology got badly exposed and he has proved to be worst than his predecessor,” he added.
