Train falls in canal as bridge collapses in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA – Three bogies of train which was carrying 300 passengers fell into a canal on Thursday near Wazirabad in Gujranwala.

According to initial reports, seven people were killed and several injured in this unfortunate incident.

Media sources revealed a section of the Head Chanawa bridge collapsed while the train was passing by the area. The train was on route from Punno Akal to Khariya Cantt in Gujrat.

A relief train from Lahore has been dispatched on the orders of Divisional Superintendent Pakistan Railways, which is carrying medical, mechanical as well as technical staff.

100 people have been rescued so far. The injured have been shifted to Rasul Nagar hospital.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed grief over the accident and directed the Punjab government and relief services to provide all resources.
