ISLAMABAD – The Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has ordered the suspension of all the arms licenses which would not be renewed before the due date, which is December 31.
While addressing a press conference, Chaudhary Nisar said that the new licenses would be issued after reviewing the needs of the applicants. He further said that the media houses should also be provided the facility of acquiring arms license as the nature of their duty demanded security.
It has been decided that the license would not be issued to any individual who would be less than 25 years of age. The transportation of arms along with its regulation within the country is also being reviewed by the Interior Ministry.
The import of prohibited bore has been limited only to the Ministry of Defence Production and the security forces of Pakistan. The weapons belonging to such category would be exclusively purchased from Pakistan Ordnance Factory Wah.
The Interior Minister said that a number of illegal weapons were circulating within the country due to the wrong policies of previous governments. A number of licenses had been issued without the prior check of needs of the applicants.
All the arms licenses issued since 1973 till June 2013 would be computerized with the help of NADRA. He also directed NADRA and Interior Ministry to run an awareness campaign for general public regarding the renewal and computerization of their licenses.
