Parliament joint session over Yemen Crisis: Live Blog

ISLAMABAD: Joint meeting of parliament started to discuss the situation of Yemen and to formulate a foreign policy regarding the security of neighbor countries especially Saudi Arabia.

Opposition leader Khursheed Shah addressing Joint Session of Parliament,

“Sorry to see attitude of treachery benches in joint session of parliament,” Khursheed Shah.

He will urge upon government to control their Member National Assembly (MNA) and said that treachery benches should instead protest against Ishaq Dar who invited Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI).

Glad to see that supremacy of Parliament has been recognized by PTI, Khursheed Shah.

Speaker NA also deserves praise since he did not accept resignations of PTI MNAs, Khursheed Shah.

“I urge upon Nawaz Sharif to come to NA and open debate on Yemen,” Leader of the opposition.

Kursheed Shah requested the Speaker NA to add joint session for an hour, so that PM could also join joint session on Yemen.

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif responding to Khursheed Shah said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be free by 3:30pm.

PM will definitely join the session today (Monday) or tomorrow (Tuesday), as the proceedings move on.

Khursheed Shah again requested to add joint this session till 4pm, so that PM could join them in the session.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar addressing to the session said PM will be busy with Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena while session can move on for days.

“I request to hear the facts from Khawaja Asif, let us start, PM will eventually join the session,” Ishaq Dar.

Khawaja Asif addressing said PTI’s return is the parliament is the victory of democracy and constitutional bodies.

Situation in Yemen has been deteriorating for last a few weeks and raised implications for Pakistan region, he said.

PM decided to discuss the Yemen issue in Parliament and to help reaching collective decision, Khawaja Aaif.

“We successfully evacuated stranded Pakistanis from Sanaa, Aden, Al Mukalla,” he said and added “Foremost priority of government was to evacuate Pakistanis stranded in Yemen.”

PNS Aslat evacuated 148 Pakistanis and 35 other citizens from al Shehar from Yemen, Asif told the house.

Pakistan Navy vessel will arrive at Al Hudeida this morning to evacuate 34 more Pakistanis from the war affected country, Khawaja Asif said.

Special thanks to Saudi government for providing Pakistan a safe corridor relaxation in no fly zone for evacuation of stranded Pakistanis, he said.

He thanked to China for evacuating stranded Pakistanis from Aden to Djibouti.

“Our commitments for territorial integrity of Saudi Arabia are unflinching and we will stand by our Saudi brothers,” Asif said.

Asif said in order to give peace a chance, Pakistan is willing to play role for peaceful solution (for Yemen conflict).

PM Nawaz visited Turkey day before yesterday and held talks to found identical views, he told.

On April 8, Iran’s Foreign Minister is coming to Pakistan, all based on initiatives taken by PM Nawaz Sharif.

“Saudi Arabia apprised us of their needs about air, ground and sea operations and regarding ‘Op Decisive Storm’,” Asif said.

Pakistan and Turkey agreed to keep their region free from turmoil, he said.

PM decided that all decision (about Yemen conflict) will be taken in the interest of Pakistan, Asif said.

In the past too, Nawaz has taken decision in the best interest of Pakistan and becoming nuclear power is one of them, Asif said.

During last one year, Pakistan Army is the only one in the world involved in direct combat against terrorism, he said

No country on earth came to help Pakistan who is fighting this war on terror on its own resources, he said.

“We suffered 50,000 casualties and $100 billion losses during war on terror,” Asif said.

Pakistan Army is the only force in world which is writing a new history by its sacrifices in its war on terror, he said.

Speaker National Assembly add joined the joint session till 5:00 Pm.
