HEC training on leadership & change management for university staff

ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) in collaboration with World Bank’s Tertiary Education Support Programme (TESP) and Institute of Management Sciences (IMSciences) Peshawar has organized training on Leadership and Change Management for staff of public sector universities. Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Chairman HEC, chaired opening session of the training held here on Monday.

HEC and TESP have launched a series of training workshops for capacity building of the staff of country’s public sector universities, working on management positions in different capacities.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman HEC highlighted the significance of capacity building of the university staff. He said that HEC has been given special attention to capacity building of teaching as well as non-teaching staff.

“This year we will train 3500 employees of public sector universities,” he said adding that HEC intends to launch second phase of TESP and would like to train more employees of Tertiary Education Institutions (TEIs).

Dr. Mansoor Akbar Kundi, Executive Director HEC commended TESP on organizing the trainings and stressed on the importance of capacity building. He said that main objective is to strengthen implementation capacity of HEC and TEI employees through different trainings.

The annual training plan has been approved by the HEC management and the World Bank, after detailed consultation with all the stakeholders and after need assessment of HEIs.

These trainings are being held in the areas of Leadership and Change Management, Human Resource Management and Socialization of HR, Financial Management, IT Management, Research Proposals, Intellectual Property, Capacity Building of Quality Assurance Staff and Project Planning, Implementation and Evaluation.

It is expected that very soon a contract to this effect will also be signed with IBA Karachi as well. TESP has received 1600 nominations from 60 public sector universities for these trainings.
