It is pertinent to mention here that Punjab government on January 7 recommended at least 77 terrorism cases including renowned politician Benazir Bhutto murder case for trial in military courts.

The cases were forwarded to the interior ministry with recommendations to start trial in special courts led by military officials which was recently approved following 21st constitutional amendment in Pakistan, reports said

The high-profile terrorism case of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) ex-chairperson Benazir Bhutto (Late) was first-ever and prominent one in its kind that was declared ‘fit’ for trial in military courts.

Twice Prime Minister and PPP ex-chairperson Benazir Bhutto was assassinated followed by gun shots and suicide bomb explosion at Liaquat National Bagh in Rawalpindi, Pakistan on 27 December 2007 during election campaigning of January 2008.

Terror-Incidents

Moreover, Sindh government on January 8 announced to shortlist some major cases related to terrorism including incidents of Karachi airport, Mehran base and Karsaz attack which would be recommended to be tried in military courts.

Information Minister Sindh Sharjeel Memon had also revealed that approximately 3,000 terrorism related cases were still pending primarily of extortion and target killing in Sindh province. He said that the cases will be recommended to federal government to refer it for trail in the military courts. He clarified the provincial governments were not authorities to refer directly the cases for trial courts.
