DHAKA: Bangladesh’s opposition leader and top leader of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Khaleda Zia, has been besieged reportedly inside her office by security forces amid severe political differences by Sheikh Hasina Wajid-led government.
Khaleda Zia is top opposition leader of the Bangladesh; who had announced country-wide rallies against the alleged vote rigging during general election on the day when Shaikh Hasina-led Awami League government completed preparation to celebrate its first anniversary on January 5.
According to reports, Khaleda Zia had spent the night inside her office situated in Gulshan as Police cordoned off her office late on Saturday disallowing her went back to her home amid rising political tensions with ruling party.
Khaleda’s special aide, Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, told reporters that the opposition leader confined by the law enforcement agencies since 11:40pm local time as the police reportedly barred her from leaving the office twice.
The report revealed that several other party leaders including Vice Chairman Selima Rahman, Khaleda’s advisor Sabih Uddin Ahmed, central leaders Shirin Sultana, Syeda Asfia Ashrafi Papiya, Rehana Akter Ranu, Rasheda Begum Heera, Sultana Ahmed, TS Ayub, Shahjahan Samrat, Shairul Kabir Khan, Shamsuddin Didar, among others, were with Khaleda.
The office does not have separate quarters for men and women to sleep.
