First air accident of 2015: Plane crashes at Stornoway Airport, injures four

ISLE OF LEWIS, Scotland: A Loganair Saab 340 aircraft faced an accident after being crashed at the Stornoway Airport’s runway on Friday morning, injuring at least four passengers in the Isle of Lewis, Scotland.

Four passengers on board sustained injuries who were due to fly to Glasgow at about 8:30 (local time) while the reason of the plane was said to be caused by strong crosswinds.

It is said to be the first air accident happened in the starting month of New Year 2015 which occurred in Stornoway town of the Isle of Lewis, Scotland on January 2.

Two injured men were shifted to hospital following injuries while two women who received minor injuries refused to get any medical assistance, Scotland Police said.

Authorities have started investigation in the incident occurred on the plane that was crash when veered off the runway with 25 passengers and three crew members on board, British media reported.

Loganair spokesman said that all passengers and crew were safely evacuated and returned to the airport’s terminal. Two passengers sustained what they understand were minor injuries and have been sent to the local hospital.

According to airport operators, the outbound aircraft Saab 340 aircraft operated by Loganair veered off the runway at Stornoway Airport at 8.33am this morning while the airport authorities were currently removing the crashed aircraft from the runway.

There are no scheduled arrivals or departures at Stornoway until later this afternoon, they said.
