JI, MQM on same page against military courts in Pakistan?

ISLAMABAD: Arch-rival political parties in every political aspects, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), apparently came up on same page by showing concerns over establishment of military courts in Pakistan.

A liberal political party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), supremo Altaf Hussain claimed that martial law was a better move rather than establishment of military courts.

MQM chief reiterated his demand of martial law but in different style, said that imposition of martial law was better than finding out an undemocratic path. He presented his demanded while addressing an emergency telephonic press conference at MQM headquarter ’90’ in Karachi on Wednesday (today).

He claimed that martial law was imposed several times in Pakistan then why not once again.

On the other hand, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) representative to the National Action Plan Committee (NAPC), Dr. Fareed Ahmed Paracha, revealed that consensus was made on all recommendations amongst all parliamentary parties except establishment of military courts in Pakistan.

However, the politico-religious party, JI, has always adopted strong stance against military take over or empowering chances of military coups in the country.

Dr. Fareed Ahmed Paracha while talking to reporters in Islamabad admitted that some parliamentary parties expressed concerns over military courts established which were still under discussion in high-level meeting in Islamabad.

He said that Jamaat-e-Islami wanted to pursue solution within boundaries of the Constitution of Pakistan. He added that a draft for anti-terrorism plan with unanimous support should be finalized which is free of all differences.

Paracha clarified that there was no such pressure of Pakistani military to bring up move beyond limits of the Constitution of Pakistan.

However, both parties were left alone by other parliamentary parties including Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Awami National Party (ANP) which later agreed to after showing concerns over establish military courts in the country.
