Afghan Taliban term UN report on civilian casualties ‘biased, unfounded’

KABUL: Afghanistan Taliban blamed the United Nations (UN) investigators for intentionally reorienting statistics of civilian casualties and termed the UN report as ‘biased and unfounded’ on facts table, foreign news agency reported on Sunday.

Afghan Taliban denounced the UN ‘biased’ report on civilian casualties through a statement which was emailed to journalists. The United Nations (UN) tried to accomplish ‘enmity and political motives’ with the false assertion, the statement said.

Taliban claimed that heavy blind air bombardments by US troops were mainly caused civilian casualties. The militants also said that a US airstrike killed several school children last week.

Afghan army, police and militias were indiscriminately killing civilians after blind US airstrikes while the militants slammed UN for classifying assassinated government officials as civilians although they knew that Taliban consider all Afghan government workers legitimate targets.

It is noteworthy to mention here that the United Nations had reported record-high number of civilian casualties by Taliban insurgents’ attacks during three-quarters of current year. The report also claimed Taliban responsible for 75 per cent of civilians’ killing with the death toll rose up to 3,188 in November that is declared more than for any other full year since it began tracking numbers, Reuters reported.
