ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) negotiators on Friday sounded confidant that they are near to cut a deal with the government over constitution of a judicial commission being demanded by them to probe alleged rigging in last year’s general elections and would hopefully give good news to the nation.
Talking to media after a meeting with the government teams, PTI’s chief negotiator Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that they had made substantial progress during their talks and hopefully will be able to give good news to the nation next week.
The government team also sounded optimistic of an early solution of the lingering issue.
Qureshi said that two side had made progress in their meeting. Qureshi stated that only an independent election commission could ensure free and fair elections in the country.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, who led the govt’s negotiating team, expressed optimism that the issue would be resolved between the two sides within the coming week.
“We are very close to resolve the dispute with the PTI ,” Dar said.
This was the third round of talks between the two sides. The talks also dealt with the formation a judicial commission to investigate alleged rigging in last years polls. The meeting between the two sides was held at the residence of PTI’s Secretary General Jahangir Tareen.
