President rejects mercy petitions of convicted Taliban terrorists

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday rejected mercy petitions of eight convicted terrorists after the government lifted the moratorium on death sentences.

After the gory attack on Peshawar Army Public School that killed 141 people including 132 school children, the government had to lift the moratorium imposed on death penalty in the country.

Following the government step,  the President rejected the mercy petitions, which were pending in the presidency since 2012.

The president rejected the petitions by exercising his powers vested in him under constitutional provision.

Following rejections of these appeals, orders of executions have been passed onto various prisons for hanging of the terrorists.
