5000 migrated from Balochistan over threats: NA informed

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly was informed Wednesday that estimated 5000 people have migrated from Baluchistan to other parts of country under the threat of attacks on their families.

Parliamentary Secretary for Interior and Narcotics Maryam Aurengzeb informed the House in response to a calling attention notice that these citizens include Punjabis, Urdu speaking and Hazaras.

However, she contested the figure of 300,000 mentioned by movers of the notice and said, neither this figure was true nor there was any mechanism earlier to establish whether the figure was authentic or not.

MNAs Nafisa Shah, Shahida Rehmani, Azra Fazl Pechuho, Imran Zafar Leghari and Aijaz Jakhrani had drawn the attention of the Minister for Interior and Narcotics towards migration of 300,000 people from Baluchistan.

The Parliamentary Secretary said since there was no integrated mechanism to count such number, the information gathered from local government departments in Balochistan reveals that this figure was between 5000 to 10,000.

She also clarified that it was prime responsibility of the provincial government to keep data for such migration and it was no domain of the federal government, although it was extending cooperation to provincial government.

“We cannot ascertain any such figure until it is brought to fore by the provincial government,” she added.

The Parliamentary Secretary, however, mentioned that now onwards, the federal government is putting in place an IT related automated mechanism to keep record of such migration.

She said Baluchistan is dear to every member of the House and the federal government is focusing to resolve its problems on priority.
