PESHAWAR: Punjabi Taliban, a strong group in Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has announced ending their militant activities in Pakistan.
According to a statement issued by Asmatullah Muawiya, one of the main leaders of TTP, geopolitical situation and internal condition of Jehadi (Islamic name of holy war) movement are the main reasons behind the new decision.
Punjabi Taliban said that the group would continue its activities in Afghanistan under the leadership of Taliban’s supreme commander Mulla Umar.
Muawiya also announced that Dawa-based movement would be carried out in Pakistan to bring Islamic change in the country.
“Majority of Pakistanis are unaware of the benefits of Islamic system and believe that the western democracy is also a system like Islam. In this situation any change in country is not possible,” he said.
The statement quoted Afghan Jihad leader Abdullah Azzam as saying that no movement can be successful after detachment with the masses.
“There is no effective Dawa-based movement in Pakistan. Therefore, the Punjabi Taliban will try to fulfill the gap,” said the statement.
“Many Pakistani religious parties are trying to work like Dawa-based movements within the limits of democracy which can’t be termed a result-oriented effort to bring change but there is no movement which is solely based on Sharia. So a Dawa-based movement is the need of the hour,” said Asmatullah Muawiya in his statement.
