GENEVA: Significant development has made after emergence of various polio cases, World Health Organisation (WHO) has imposed travel barriers on Pakistani citizens on Monday.
WHO took firm decision today over having severe concerns on latest polio cases emerged in Pakistan, majorly from the country’s tribal belt including Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
Dr. Bruce Aylward, Assistant Director-General WHO, detailed that Pakistani citizens have to get their polio vaccination certificates before leaving the country.
Experts have discussed various options in four-day long Geneva Convention organised by WHO and imposed travel restriction in the light of new guidelines by the international organisation.
Imposition of barriers on two more countries has been recommended during the meeting including Syria and Cameroon.
According to the conclusion of the Geneva convention, polio virus is now spreading again in those countries where it had been eliminated and measures need to be taken to limit this virus.
On the other hand, Pakistan’s Ministry of Health has established an inter-provincial committee to handle the situation of polio. And anti-polio campaign has been intensified at airports.
According to Health Ministry, there would a special polio campaign for Pakistani travelling abroad.
