TRIPOLI: Unidentified armed persons reportedly stormed at Libyan parliament in presence of various high-level government officials attending session to vote for Prime Minister’s post, reports said.
There are reports of casualties in the incident, whereas, the miscreants demanding to stop the voting session for the post of Libyan premier while many lawmakers are still present inside.
The voting process has been abandoned following the armed attack, Reuters reported.
A parliamentary spokesperson, Omar Hmeidan, said that several people are wounded by shooting in Libya’s parliament building, ITV reported.
He added the gunmen, who stormed the building and forced the parliament to abandon a vote on the next Prime Minister, are allied to one of the defeated PM candidates.
Lawmakers were running away from the building, witnesses said.

Gunmen stormed the seat of Libya’s General National Congress in Tripoli Tuesday as it was preparing to elect a new prime minister, an MP said.
“Armed men have besieged the congress, but we do not know the motive of the attack,” Tahar Mokni told AFP.
“We suspended our proceedings, and the vote has been postponed until next week.”
It should be mentioned that the previous Libyan PM Abdullah al-Thinni resigned from his post after being targeted by militia.
Tensions have been mounting between the country’s biggest political blocs, each backed by militias, adding to the potential explosiveness of political disputes. Protesters demanded that parliament be disbanded immediately after its mandate ran out in January.
