ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has issued a show-cause notice to Geo News television channel on Wednesday night and asked to submit the response till May 6.
This notice was issued after Geo News’ coverage on the attack on senior journalist Hamid Mir and for airing Hamid Mir’s brother statement, in which he blamed intelligence agency Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and its chief Lt Gen Zahir-ul-Islam for the attack on Hamid.
The Defence Ministry asked the PEMRA, in its application, to suspend the transmission of Geo TV as it was an insult of a prestigious national institution.
The PEMRA said that Geo should be given a chance to explain before any action could be taken against the channel. So the PEMRA has asked the Geo TV to explain its act within next 14 days.
Remember that Hamid Mir was attacked last week when he was going to his office from Karachi airport on Saturday. He was severely wounded as unidentified persons had opened fire on his car near Shahrah-e-Faisal.
