Vancouver: Swedish superstar Daniel Sedin was in a Vancouver hospital Sunday night after being hit by Calgary’s Paul Byron in the second period of the Canucks 5-1 victory at Rogers Arena.
Sedin scored two goals in the first period but was taken off the ice on a stretcher late in the second after the hit by Byron, who was thrown out of the game by the officials.
Sedin was hurt when he was hit awkwardly into the boards in the Canucks’ final game of the 2013-14 National Hockey League season.
The Canucks said that Sedin was in stable condition.
“Daniel exhibited signs of movement to his extremities and showed improvement from initially being hit,” the Canucks said in a statement.
Byron received a five-minute major and a game misconduct for boarding at the 17:16 mark.
Sedin won a silver medal with Sweden at the Sochi Winter Olympics in February.
Aside from Sedin’s two goals, the Canucks also got scoring from Ryan Kesler, Frank Corrado and Yannick Weber.
