MURRYSVILLE, Pa.: At least 20 students and a adult were reportedly stabbed in classrooms by a student at Franklin Regional High School located in Murrysville, Pa., near Pittsburgh, USAToday reported.
Security officials have arrested the suspected student who allegedly injures several students – four in sensitive condition, via sharp knife attack around 7 a.m. before classes began Wednesday morning.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said that the incident occurred after a fire drill while parents in the district have been told to pick up their children, who were moved from the high school to the middle school during the violent attack.
Injured persons has been take to Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville by helicopters while two of the victims are present in operating room till last KDKA-TV reports.
According to reports, one of the victims aged 60 could be a staff member in the high school.
Dr. Chris Kaufmann, director of the trauma center at Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville, told CNN that his hospital received 8 victims. He said at least two of the victims in the hospital are in the operating room. “These are significant injuries,” he told the station.
On its website, the school posted a message to parents that read, “A critical incident has occurred at the high school. All elementary schools are cancelled, the middle school and high school students are secure. Additional information will be released as soon as possible. Please keep our campus clear of traffic.”
Dan Stevens, spokesman for Westmoreland County emergency management, says the suspect was in custody at Franklin Regional High School in the Murrysville, which is located about 15 miles east of Pittsburgh.
