Mohammad Hafeez steps down as T20 captain

LAHORE: Taking responsibility of Pakistan’s failure in the World T20, skipper Mohammad Hafeez has announced to step down as captain of the national cricket team.

While talking to the media after meeting with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi in Lahore, Hafeez said that he is ready to play under any captain, adding that he would accept any responsibility given by the board.

“Captaincy has never been my objective…every player of the team is responsible for the defeat against West Indies as I am.”

Answering a question, he said that his meeting with PCB chairman Najam Sethi was a good one and thanked media and people for supporting Pakistan cricket team during ICC World Twenty20.

He also announced to quit as vice captain of the ODI and Test teams.

He further said that he does not know when the ‘post-mortem’ of the team will start

The decision came after Pakistan cricket team’s humiliating defeat against West Indies in a World T20 contest  which saw Pakistani batting line fall like a pack of cards chasing a total of 166 in a match which was a pseudo quarter final of the ICC grand event.

Muhammad Hafeez captained Pakistan team in 29 Twenty20 matches, winning 17 and losing 12.

Meanwhile, Coach Moin Khan said that his contract with the PCB had been ended, adding that he would continue if the board offered him.

Moin said that the players could not take a pressure of final four overs against West Indies.
