CHITTAGONG: New Zealand beat minnows Netherlands in a match which was turning into an expected upset as Netherlands were close to winning the game until New Zealand skipper McCullum crushed their dream and brought a six wicket win to Kiwis in this Group 1 Match.
Earlier Kiwi captain Brendon McCullum won the toss and chose to bowl, expecting conditions to become easier for batsmen under lights, despite the dry surface, here at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury stadium.
Netherlands Cooper and Borren proved McCullum wrong with their blistering knocks.
Tim cooper hit 40 off 31 balls while Peter Borren made an unbeaten 49 in 40 balls to take the score to a considerable 151 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.
None of the kiwi bowlers could even take a second wicket.
New Zealand had to face difficulties during their innings as Netherlands pacer Timm van der Gugten took 3 wickets for 3o runs in his 4 overs quota.
Soon McCullum took charge of the game and hit 65 runs off 45 balls to take his team to victory.
McCullum was given ‘Man of the Match’Â award.
