KARACHI: A Blast near the railway track in Landhi area of Karachi has overturned almost eleven bogies of Shalimar Express killing more than five people and injuring around 87 passengers.
The explosion occurred between Ghughar Phattak (checkpoint) and Dhabeji, Eleven bogies went off the track while four were completely overturned, till the last reports.
Among the injured are women and children and their deafening cries can be heard from far away.
People inside the bogies are crying for help , but the prevailing darkness is making the rescue work difficult.
So far, only Rangers have reached the spot and started rescue work with no other governmental help.
Residents of the area along with the Rangers personnel are helping the injured and shifting them to Jinnah Hospital, where an emergency has been declared.
All trains on the route are stopped after the incident ,according to DS Railway.
Meanwhile Federal minister for Railways Khwaja Saad Rafique has called for an inquiry into the tragic incident while political leaders, both in opposition and government have condemned the blasts in Karachi and Peshawar.
Shalimar Express is a privately owned train service and the blast hit night train was going from Karachi to Lahore.
