PESHAWAR: Thirty one persons were severely injured while five are dead following powerful bomb explosions at picture house cinema located in Peshawar, the provincial capital of the Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province.
The violent incident occurred in the cinema house situated within the jurisdiction of Khan Razzak police station near the famous Qissa Khwani market of the city.
According to initial reports, the explosions were carried out via hand grenades as a suspected man entered inside the cinema where approximately 100 persons were present.
Rescue teams reached the location and shifting the injured persons to Peshawar’s Lady Reading Hospital, where an emergency was declared.
Heavy contingents of law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area while the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was also called which did not reach the site in time.
Nothing can be said about the nature of the blast, but police sources are suggesting that a terrorist threw china-made hand grenades in the cinema and fled.
Meanwhile, Provincial Information Minister Shah Farman told media that the cinema was threatened before and was on the hit-list of terrorists besides claiming that cinema owners were warned and will be interrogated as the cinema had its own security besides police presence.

It must be noted that, till 5PM, Article 144 was implemented in the city and pillion riding was banned in connection with the polio immunization drive in the city.
