Karachi: The Sindh government on Saturday has challenged the Sindh High Court’s (SHC) verdict on declaring the Sindh Local Government Act and delimitation of union councils as unconstitutional in the Supreme Court (SC) Karachi Registry.
Advocate General Sindh Khalid Javed Khan filed the petition in Karachi Registry.
The petition has been accepted and the hearing to be hold on January 8 in Islamabad.
Khan requested the SC to in the petition to overturn SHC’s verdict so that the local government (LG) elections can be held without further delays
On December 30, 2013, a Division Bench of the SHC, headed by Justice Sajad Ali Shah, ruled that Sindh Local Government (third amendment) Ordinance-2013 has been passed by the Sindh Assembly unlawfully and all amendments in the ordinance are illegal and unconstitutional.
